“Various elements and circumstances came about in the formation of these paintings. Mainly, they are a result of the relationship of the inner and outer secret world that I inhabit. The paintings may start with a photo from a road trip and then change to more of an abstraction of line, colour, form, and space. The paintings usually have impressions of several locations within them. The landscapes that I encounter sometimes stir a spacious deep feeling, and I am inspired to put that on canvas, and these paintings are a result of that.
To quote the Mexican author Roberto Bolano, ‘the visual arts are ultimately incomprehensible, or they are so comprehensible that no one, first and foremost myself, can accept the most obvious reading of them.’”

Peter di Gesu, currently residing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, was born in Los Angeles, California, and received an MFA degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. Peter di Gesu currently exhibits in commercial galleries in Denver, Colorado, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has exhibited in museum-type venues in California, Japan, and India, and his work is in permanent collections in the Oakland Art Museum and the Pasadena Art Museum, both in California, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax. His paintings are held in various private collections and corporations in the United States and Canada.
